The prospect of another album from the darlings of South African rock was both enticing and mildly terrifying. Fans were desperate for new material; sceptics wondered whether, five years and several hundred beers later, Arno and the lads would still fit into their tight leather pants.

Thankfully, it seems the Nudies have kept themselves in shape. Peace Breaker, recorded in two weeks at their old studio in Stellenbosch, is already being widely hailed as their best album to date. Its first single, Illuminate, is a chart favourite and the band is currently playing to packed houses on a reunion tour.

Those of you expecting something along the lines of Arno’s highly successful solo work, think again: this is vintage, hard-as-nails rock. We’re glad to have them back.
