Mahlasela has been touring the world for the past few years, and he’s made a few friends on the way. On Naledi ya Tsela, his &&th album, Mamelodi’s favourite son is joined by the mercurial Dave Matthews, Australian didgeridoo star Xavier Rudd and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, among others.

The album is better for it, particularly on ‘Sower of words’, to which Matthews lends his considerable voice. Mahlasela might have been on the road more often than not since his previous release, but he’s made it abundantly clear with Naledi ya Tsela that his heart remains in South Africa.

It’s another succinct ode to the land he loves and it’s worth having even if you’re a non-English speaking Belgian:

They don’t call him ‘The Voice’ for nothing.
