Music What do Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst and Katy Perry have in common? They're both fans of Afrikaans Zef hip-hop act Die Antwoord, of course. South Africa's hottest musical export since forever have taken the 'interweb' by storm.

Die Antwoord, or 'The Answer', made their first major move on what they refer to as the 'interweb' last year. The video for the first single off their album, 'Enter the Ninja', now has over 4 million hits on youtube, more than even X Factor sensation Susan 'The Hairy Angel' Boyle. The sheer volume of hits in the first week of release crashed the local server.

This is so-called 'Zef' music - Zef being a South African slang term which basically describes a unique, indescribable South African style - and Die Antwoord is leading from the front. Lyrics are both in Afrikaans and English, but where they are alike is in their irreverence. So when you click on the link below, it might be worthwhile covering your kids' ears.

The band is fronted by Ninja, aka Watkin Tudor Jones, whose previous incarnations were as leader of The Original Evergreens, Max and The Constructus Corporation. But it is with Die Antwoord that Jones - whose rangy frame and crewcut him look a bit like Vanilla Ice's evil twin - has hit the big time.

Ninja is assisted by Yonlandi Vi$$er and DJ Hi Tek, and the album, $O$, features appearances by fellow 'Zef' rapper Jack Parow and Fokofpolisiekar.

Within weeks of the 'Enter the Ninja' video going online, Die Antwoord had been tweeted by the likes of Anne Hathaway, Kate Bosworth, Kelly Osbourne and 'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart and had booked a performance at the Coachella festival in California. That performance turned out to be one of the festivals's highlights, with burlesque star (and former squeeze of Marilyn Manson) Dita von Teese singling them out as the best act there.

Now signed to Interscope Records - they fended off major competition to settle on the deal - the band is planning to tour Europe in April 2010 and the USA later that same year. The European leg will see the trio visit France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.
