On 30 March 2014 on board flight VS602 from Johannesburg to London the Parlotones launched their much anticipated new album ‘Stand like Giants’. The sounds of the Parlotones spread through OR Tambo’s international departures as the Parlotones played sets in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, the boarding gate and then in the aisles of Upper Class, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. Passengers were surprised and entertained as the Parlotones serenaded them with new songs and old favourites.

The album launch was the beginning of a week filled with non-stop entertainment. The 94.7 Breakfast Xpress team broadcasted their show live from the United Kingdom and kept their fans back home glued to their radios with an interview with Sir Richard Branson and excitement from West End shows, a tour up The Shard and a trip in an exclusive pod on the London Eye.  Darren “Whackhead” Simpson enjoyed his first visit to his homeland of Scotland on Virgin Atlantic’s Little Red.  The visit included a tour to Edinburgh Castle, sightseeing, whiskey tasting and bagpipe lessons from the famed Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

The Parlotones showed why they are South Africa’s number one rock band with shows at landmark locations. Sir Richard Branson’s, Virgin Limited Edition’s Kensington Roof Gardens and King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, where the fans at both sold out performance were brought to their feet by, what can only be described as jaw dropping performances.  The Parlotones left their hearts on the stage and their fans wanting more.

Kahn Morbee, Parlotones frontman said "The whirlwind week orchestrated by Virgin Atlantic was taste of what it’s like to be tourist royalty. It was fun packed luxurious entertainment from the get go and a week we will savour as magical. The 94.7 Breakfast Xpress team were amazing in capturing the fun, the memories, the adventures and the chaos, as each morning they reflected on the previous day’s events. A big thank you to all the fans who attended the shows and followed the adventures online and on air".

Liezl Gericke, Sales and Marketing Manager for Virgin Atlantic in South Africa, said “It’s difficult to sum up the experience, the magic and the highlights from the week, but the biggest highlight of the trip was the launch of the Parlotones album on board VS602 to London, unplanned highlights just added to the unforgettable experience”.

Virgin Atlantic passengers were the first to experience a concert on board an airplane and The Parlotones are the first and only South African band to have their album as part of the Virgin Atlantic’s extensive music library onboard the inflight entertainment system.
